In this corporate jungle where everyone wants to get an up on everyone, and competition is stiff, you really need an extra edge to make you more noticeable.

One of the ways to achieve this is though the use of LinkedIn, a professional networking website. LinkedIn operates the same way as a social networking site - you make a profile, add contacts, and watch your network grow. The only difference is that LinkedIn users are building professional and corporate contacts for the advancement of their careers.
Many employers use LinkedIn because of its relative ease of use, where they can see a member’s qualifications related to the industry he or she is in. There is also a referral system, where a person can be referred because of exemplary work, which makes him or her more marketable for future jobs.

There is usually a part within any job interview, normally before it ends, where you will be asked for your reason why you left your past firm even with a good position and competitive pay. This is a trick question to see if you are a possible whiner who can be more of a liability to the company you’re applying into so be careful and tread easy. Past issues and brushes with the management with certain issues may give your interviewer clues to your resistance to company policy that is a turn-off. Companies avoid people who complain too much for they are very much at their own headaches. That is the reason why companies sometimes prefer entry-level hires for they are not at all prone to complain about working conditions, pay and many other employment factors due to lack of experience. Be professional with your answers so you do not dig your own grave and lose the employment opportunity of a lifetime.

The outlook was bad but in reality, it’s even worse. Jobs are being lost and companies are closing down, the many scandals being exposed aren’t helping either. The bailout stalls with some seeing it as economic suicide. The outlook is indeed grim but hey, that’s life and it must go on.
It may be hard to get jobs in the private sector but the government has opened many a doors, such as with the FBI and other law enforcement agencies (due to rising crime rates brought about by the recession that can only get worse). The Feds might be hiring but state offices are trimming down due to budget cuts and deficits. Keep your eyes open for opportunities for they are few and hard to come by. Land in an interview, do your best but if you fail, it’s not your fault so take it easy. You’re not alone and just keep searching and you’ll find one for sure.

The ever increasing fuel prices and the weakening economy, adds up to the daily struggle of a young professional or a blue collar worker. The world is simply changing and careers start to fall. Many left unemployed and nowhere to go. Others tend to make ends meet by working sideline jobs just to be able to survive the harsh reality of day to day living. This is the time when we think, what job can we get into that does not falter or at least is not affected with the rise and fall of the economy. Believe me, there are jobs which are high paying and are recession-proof, if I may say. Accounting is one. Accountants are in demand due to the fact that companies hire them to keep track and maintain the financial health of the entire workforce. As long as there’s business, there will be demand for accountants.

College seniors and future graduates of 2009 are facing a dim reality. They may encounter big problems in landing a job by the time they graduate. This is so because employers are cutting down on the work force and trimming their hiring prospects in connection with the sour economy and financial chaos. Employers are planning to hire just a mere 1.3% more graduates this coming year than they did this year. It turns out to be the weakest out look in the last six years and clearly shows a sharp downturn. The big cut down on hiring prospects is already expected but highly unusual. In this light, the pattern of decreasing job prospects continues on for college graduates.

A career in financial planning usually requires a bachelors degree in business administration, accounting, finance or statistics. In addition, trainings and seminars on risk management, bond valuation, options pricing and other related topics are also an advantage.
Financial analysts and financial planners are professionals that help businesses and individuals make smart investment choices. They evaluate data, assess patterns and make factual predictions to make recommendations about selling or buying various investment and securities products. They are usually hired by banks, insurance companies, securities firms, pension and mutual funds and other financial institutions.
While a career in financial planning is financial-rewarding, competition is tough so make sure you have excellent communication skills, dedication and a positive attitude if you want to be a financial planner or a financial analyst.

Lack of confidence: Do what you have to do first and don’t depend on that feeling of confidence. It will come as time goes by.
Self fulfilling prophecy: Thinking that ‘I don’t have the right experience, contacts, etc.’ Thoughts affect actions and actions affect reality. Stop focusing on past and act on the present. Focus on solutions and not limitations.
Elephant in the room: Experiencing getting stuck on a problem. Three options: accept, spin or upgrade. Either accept your experiences and change your attitude, spin or reframe your experience to make it neutral or positive, or upgrade and do something about it.
